The Heart Is a Drum Machine
I watched this film mainly for the cameo by Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT. However, I came away surprised and delighted by the overall film. It’s basically interviews with musicians and those involved in the music business and their attempts to explain what music means to them, both literally and emotionally. Interspersed with those interviews are interviews with people who are currently using music in some interesting new ways; scientists using the sound of your personal brain wave patterns to decrease depression, deaf musicians creating music through rhythm, and sending world music into space for aliens to find. Overall, I felt like it was a really uplifting, interesting film that anyone with more than a passing interest in music will enjoy.
